March 2016
Richie Realms: Of MusicRealms,
Interviews Demon Boy

So what do i say about Demon Boy, well to be perfectly honest I never heard of them utill I met them at the Winter Con. For those who don't know winter con is a comic book convention held here in New York, I go to the con every year and this year Demon Boy was there talking and taking photos with fans.

They were spreading the word about their band. So I had to walk up and introduced myself told them I would like to interview them for my website and they graciously said yes. I spoke to them and got some insight on what they are about, I have to say I was impressed. I went home and listened to their music and was amazed at their sound.

Their sound has heavy riffs with a driving bass line and hard hitting drums. But what really drew me to the band was the costumes. I am a horror fan and Demon Boy has a great look for fans of vampire's and zombies. I enjoyed meeting them and will make it a point to see them again in the near future. So if you are a fan of horror and want to hear some great music and see an amazing stage show go see Demon Boy.

MusicRealms:

Please list the name of each band member and the instrument they play?

Demon Boy:

Currently on the 6 string Bass we have "Chris Cyanide", On Drums is "Lightning Lou",on Guitar is "Alex The Axecutioner", we have "Skully" The worlds only living Bobble-head as our MC stage performer and he also does Background Vocals, then we have Swordsha our dancer/performer who uses real very sharp swords in the show and is our theatrical performer acting as LIttle Red Riding Bitch, Cemetery Girl and more throughout the show.

MusicRealms:

How did you come up with the name Demon Boy?

Demon Boy:

An acquaintance had called me that name around/about the time I was developing the bands main character in 2008 and I said "hey thats pretty cool" and I used it from that point on, it did help to finalize what Demon Boy's persona would be, so it quickly became a launching pad for idea's as we developed.

MusicRealms:

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?

Demon Boy:

We are a Horror Rock/Metal band basically, Not Horror Punk or Death Metal as alot of people think by just looking at us or they simply misread the term Horror Rock .. we are Not anything like the Misfits but more like Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie, a Hard Rock Band themed in Horror related songs and Lyrics as well as our theatrical stage show antics.

MusicRealms:

Who are your major influences?

Demon Boy:

As mentioned in my previous comment, Alice Cooper tops my list but actually I like alot of the 1970's Hard Rock bands of the time that No one knew about like STARZ and ANGEL who's singer Frank Dimino is my favorite all time singer, I use some of his vocal stylings in my own songs I find him unique and underrated as a singer.

MusicRealms:

How long have you all known each other? And how did you meet?

Demon Boy:

Well thats not really a question I can answer... This is not one of those bands that grew up together or anything like that, I have had over 23 people in my band in less that 5 years, I started out just hiring back up musicians much like Alice Cooper does and they have come and go over the years, my current lineup is the result of years of musicians joining my band and finally getting 4 guys understanding just what the Demon Boy Band is and helping push it to success along side me instead of me doing all the work myself.. I got to hand it to my new guys.. they are by far the BEST I have played with and I hope to keep them here for the long run as we forge our way to success in the industry.

MusicRealms:

When did you form your band?

Demon Boy:

I formed the Concept for Demon Boy in 2008 and launched it in 2009 at New York Comic Con where I did a meet and greet to introduce Demon Boy to the general public, there is also a Demon Boy Comic Book series I created with artist Helmut Eppich that helps facilitate me doing conventions so other than the band I am known for the comic book series as well.

MusicRealms:

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?

Demon Boy:

Basically everyone has a hand in it, I have written several and Chris Cyanide is now writing new material for DB Band, alot of our lyrics come from working with Dark Poet "Rich Orth" he is my writing partner, I turn to him for the clever and macabre lyrics you hear in alot of our songs like "Cemetery Girl" "Zombie Dance" and"This Halloween" just to name a few... All topics are themed in Horror or a Halloween type feel, I am very Strict to stay within this guideline.. about the only departure is my latest single "Fly on The Wall" which is a Miley Cyrus cover but I managed to put a Macabre spin on it as you will see in the upcoming video we are currently shooting at the time of this interview, and NO i will not change the guidelines of the writing anytime soon.

MusicRealms:

How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?

Demon Boy:

Certainly the addition of the current members writing songs for Demon Boy along with myself and Rich Orth and adding their influence have changed things for the better, I always want to improve our sound and out do what we did in the past, you cant get stale but in the same respect you still need to give the fans what they have come to expect.

MusicRealms:

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Demon Boy:

With todays industry the biggest challenge for us is keeping finances up to stay in the ring, its a money thing nowadays, you can buy your way onto alot of the better festivals and events and major tours, without proper high end mangement and booking agents most bands are just exhausting their resources to keep alive. I push my merchandise and CD sales as hard as I can to keep revenue flowing so we can continue to work.

MusicRealms:

Describe your show, visual and musically?

Demon Boy:

High Energy, lots of theatrics with costumes, dancers, props, and a custom light show, its been called a "Heavy Metal Funhouse Ride Through a Comic Book Hell" we are one of the most Entertaining bands on the planet.. i will go toe to toe with anyone in and above our league.

MusicRealms:

Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Demon Boy:

Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Frank Dimino and the Band Angel, Gene Simmons, Harry Connick Junior, Jim Rose of Jim Rose Circus Sideshow fame. All of these people have taught me how to navigate the business side of the music industry which today is key.

MusicRealms:

What are your dreams and goals?

Demon Boy:

To make Demon Boy as iconic as the people mentioned in the last question and to influence a younger generation on how to be productive in life as well as music.I am not about being depressing, intimidating or Hateful.. we are a good time Rock N roll Band believe it or not despite our appearance we are the Happiest bunch of Demons you will ever meet LOL.

MusicRealms:

How do you promote your band and shows?

Demon Boy:

Social media of course is the main forum, I have help from the Demon Boy Street team headed by Demonette Kim Kaos and my other girl Samantha who runs some of my websites without them I could not function , everyone helps to push each event I do, I have a vast network of supporters and fans around the world that pitch in with word of mouth promotions, I do post alot of teaser/promo videos on my you tube channel www.youtube.com/demonboytv along with countless radio station support.

MusicRealms:

Where have you performed?

Demon Boy:

Everywhere. Bars, dives, shit holes.. large events, film festivals, conventions.. to many to mention.

MusicRealms:

Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?

Demon Boy:

We always play what we call the hits for the fans.. we always open the show with "Born Dead" and "Party to the Grave" our encore songs are"This Halloween" and "Little Red Riding Bitch" of course and always "I Kissed a Dead Girl" and "Ravenous" these are in every set. Yes we do one or two covers from Rob Zombie and Wednesday 13 if we have the time and we do have several set list's we perform that are standard depending on our allotted length of set times.

MusicRealms:

What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

Demon Boy:

They are solid work hours no fooling around, we rehearse on average once every 2 weeks or sometimes once a week if we can.

MusicRealms:

Tell us a story about a day in your life?

Demon Boy:

When its not a concert day.. LOL its pretty boring unless you like watching me work on the computer all day. I spend about 3 hours in the morning answering business e mails and fan mail from over 25 websites around the world, then the phone calls start, I also take care of online merch sales and shipping my prime source of income along with my Video Company, I'll do an interview if one is on my schedule and basically handle my day to day operations for the band and the other Demon Boy enterprises like the comic book and what not, by the afternoon I may do some recording or writing if I'm in the mood.. I also have a few clients from my production company that I need to do a few things for like updating their social media sites, making press kits, video shoots and editing, whatever is on schedule for that particular day with a particular band or client. I Co-own a Video Editing Company called "Electric Film Works" and we do lots of music video's, infomercials, promo's or web ad campaigns for clients.. so yea.. I'm a busy Demon and always have more on my plate than I can handle in a single day, no hobbies no time to relax.. I am constantly working to the point that people around me cant stand that all I do is Demon Boy 24/7.. if its not about or concerns Demon Boy.. dont bother to me... lol Im a workaholic for my career.. this is how I best my competition... most people cannot dedicate the time like I do, this is how I lead the pack.Try and catch me. lol

MusicRealms:

What inspires you to do what you do?

Demon Boy:

Money, I want it. ha ha ha ha. yes thats my prime directive, this is a business not a hobby its all I do and a Demons gotta eat. I do enjoy the genre' I am in (horror) and performing.. I was born to be an Entertainer, I have been called a Natural showman.. and i am just that, nothing pleases me more than being on the live stage and showing people a good time,I give it my all when I am out there, I am out to grab the Bull by the horns as they say...my goal is to be another iconic Horror rocker like Alice or Rob Z. I will go toe to toe with any act in the world and prove my Metal. Bring it.. cause I'm gonna Kill it! I want the World and I want it NOW!

MusicRealms:

What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Demon Boy:

Holy Crap.. too much to write here, First the music industry is NOT what it was when we all grew up, so get that OUT of your head that you will quote "Make It" those days are GONE.. run your band like a small business sell your merch and stay alive.. its all you can do nowadays, touring cost tons of cash that you will never make back unless you are one of the few lucky ones, If your Not selling music and merch or on your way to packing out venues.. your Dead to the industry, sorry but thats the reality of today's biz.. BUT you can join my production Company and I will help you navigate and teach you key things on how to survive in today's shit fest of a Music scene.. hows that!? lol

MusicRealms:

What are the biggest obstacles for bands?

Demon Boy:

Money, Financing and Money... without it you will struggle long and Hard.. if you got it.. doors will open faster, its a Harsh reality people but money CAN buy you everything, Good Gigs, Good Management, Good Booking agencies.. and trust me without any of those your nothing but a garage band having fun.

MusicRealms:

Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there?

Demon Boy:
